Ted Cruz takes lead in Iowa
While Trump continues to lead in national and most early state polls, Cruz has recently gained significant ground in the key first caucus state of Iowa.

“As I’m looking ahead to Vegas and our Republican debate, how do you think the dynamic between those two, between Cruz and Trump, will play out for all of us to see?” Cruz attacked a fellow Republican for marching in a pride parade, saying, “When a mayor of a city chooses twice to march in a parade celebrating pride, that’s a statement – and it’s not a statement I agree with”.
Carolyn Kaster Donald Trump and Ted Cruz greet each other on stage during a Septemner 2015 rally on Capitol Hill.
But the latest Monmouth University poll shows Cruz has jumped ahead of Trump 24 to 19 among Republicans in Iowa.
“Now that’s a question of strength but it’s also a question of judgment and I think that is a question that is a challenging question for both of them”, Cruz said at the event. Ted Cruz, who has only spoken well of his opponent on the trail.
Yet another poll from Iowa released on Monday by CNN has Trump comfortably ahead in the Hawkeye state and most polls still have him with a double-digit lead nationally. Cruz did indicate that he would not engage in the pre-emptive use of American ground forces that marked some of the second Bush administration’s policy decisions. “We have to create a safe zone someplace in Syria but I don’t want them coming into this country because we don’t know who they are”. (According to Cruz, there was “a natural arch” pulling down Trump and Ben Carson.) It is surprising Cruz forgot the No. 1 rule of politics: No conversation is ever private. Chuck Todd even went so far as to call Cruz the “invisible frontrunner”, and to theorize that Cruz’ supporters are more likely to show up and caucus for him than Donald Trump’s.
Cruz’s campaign on Thursday attempted to downplay the New York Times story, calling the newspaper’s report of the Texas lawmaker criticizing Trump “misleading”. “I believe that gravity will bring both of those candidates down”. Frequently quoting Reagan-era U.N. Ambassador Jeane Kirkpatrick, Cruz argued that at times, the USA must accept unsavory strongmen as allies rather than the unintended fallout of toppling a dictator.
The endorsement comes as Cruz has surged in the polls.
Some in Cruz’s orbit aren’t particularly anxious about the threat from Trump. And Trump, in turn, has spared Cruz from the missiles he’s aimed at almost every other rival.
