Derrick Henry wins Alabama’s second-ever Heisman Trophy
Alabama running back Derrick Henry was named the 2015 Heisman Trophy victor on Saturday in NY, while Stanford standout Christian McCaffrey finished second in the voting. Henry’s 1,832 points beat McCaffrey’s 1,539 and Watson’s 1,165.

Henry leads the nation in rushing yards (1,986) and rushing touchdowns (23). Henry excelled that month, rushing for 200 or more yards in three of four games.
The 81st annual Heisman Trophy ceremony, which honors college football’s most outstanding player, is coming to you live on Saturday Dec. 12 and HollywoodLife.com is ready with all the action.
Although Alabama is a college football powerhouse, Henry is only the second Crimson Tide player to win a Heisman.
Alabama’s defense may be chiefly responsible for Alabama’s national title chances, but it’s hard to imagine the Crimson Tide reaching these heights without Henry driving the offense and beating up on the rest of the SEC.
By midseason it was LSU sophomore Leonard Fournette (150-plus rushing yards in each of his first seven games) who was the odds-on-favorite. The Heisman is an MVP award to me, unless the numbers are staggering, so a candidate like the quarterback of the No. 1 team in the country will get the benefit of my doubt. Fournette only managed 31 yards in the game.
Heisman-defining moment: Henry made one cut behind the line and sprinted toward the end zone while Auburn defenders seemed to be moving in slow motion. But this season, Kenyan Drake, playing Robin to Henry’s Batman, broke a bone in his right arm in Game 10 against Mississippi State. Derrick Henry said his grandmother was with him in spirit as his childhood dream of winning the Heisman came true.
Henry has been a workhorse for the Crimson Tide all season. He has rushed for over 30 attempts four times and over forty attempts twice. He shattered the Alabama single-season rushing record and the SEC single-season rushing record that was previously held by Herschel Walker in 1981.
Watson has led the Clemson Tigers to a ideal 13-0 record, the top ranking in the nation, and the number-one seed in the College Football Playoff. Watson completed just under 70% of his passes for 3,512 yards. He also has 887 yards with 11 touchdowns on the ground.
