McGregor Beats Aldo In 13 Second UFC Match To Take Title

The sandpaper-like McGregor, a former plumber who has yet to meet a microphone or camera he doesn’t like, had taken one verbal shot after another at Aldo, whose lack of English restricted his comebacks.

While Jose Aldo may have called for a rematch with Conor McGregor following his 13 second defeat at the hands of the Irish man, it seems the UFC top brass don’t see that on the horizon. With that, Aldo has responded by taking to Instagram to callout McGregor in a caption that went along with a picture of him and his drug test results.

After McGregor dropped Aldo to the canvas he immediately swooped in to hammer his fist into his rival’s face before referee John McCarthy pushed him away to bring the main event to a dramatic conclusion. “I say what I do now”, McGregor said. “There is no doubt now”.

“Precision beats power, timing beats speed”, McGregor said afterwards. “We deserved to go a little bit longer”, he said. This was a historic event that allowed the UFC to close out 2015 on a high note, with one more important fight still to come in next weekend’s lightweight title fight between champion Rafael Dos Anjos and Donald Cerrone. The Irishman targeted the imperious Brazilian champion with a steady stream of trash talk and entertaining antics, infuriating Aldo while making himself into a pay-per-view draw and arguably the UFC’s second-biggest star behind Rousey. UFC president Dana White confirmed that if McGregor goes up to 155-pounds, he would receive an immediate title shot against whoever is the champion. However, the champion Aldo suffered a rib injury prior to the bout and was forced to pull out at the last-minute.

With blood visible from a cut on his face, Aldo said through a translator: “I think I need a rematch since it really was not a fight”. The most unforgettable exchange between the two was during the time when McGregor said, “It’s his shady ass that doesn’t get tested over there in Brazil” after the guy from Brazil who was supposed to take Aldo’s drug test got arrested by the police.

Aldo had been the only fighter to wear UFC featherweight gold, and also turned back several challenges while wearing the belt in the WEC. Rockhold evaded the kick, grabbed Weidman and took him down for the first time in his UFC career.

Rockhold, a native of Santa Cruz, California, has stopped his last five opponents.

The crowd roared as McGregor – clad in green compression shorts – entered first, with “Ole Ole” chants from the stands competing with his Notorious B.I.G. entrance music. Weidman had reigned in the 185-pound division ever since he smashed Anderson Silva in 2013.

Edgar’s stoppage put a dramatic finish on the second of three UFC fight cards in three nights on the Las Vegas Strip.
