Shahnawaz Khan, the Uber cab driver of Delhi had the experience of his life that he will never forget. Khan initially didn’t know what to do in this situation but with the help of two other women, he turned the cab into a labour room and help Babli deliver the baby. “The doctors thought I was her husband, and were shocked to hear I was the driver”, said Shahnawaz.

Once they reached the hospital, Khan also arranged a stretcher, helped the mother onto it, and then wheeled her inside the hospital.

“I felt that something could happen on the way and suggested that they call an ambulance”, Khan says, “but she said the ambulance would take time, and you are already here”. Upon reaching, Khan discovered that his passenger was heavily-pregnant Babli, waiting to be rushed to the hospital for delivery. “On asking her, she explained that the cab had been organised for her through her husband’s acquaintance (Sanjay) who also ran a small vehicle service, but couldn’t spare any cars”. She was in pain…. I narrated the entire incident after which they congratulated me. The family of the woman thanked Shahnawaz and asked him to name the child, who promptly named the baby after the company’s name, Uber. I am very happy. “Money, after all, is not everything in the world”, he said, adding that both the mother and child were doing well.
