Zuckerberg Trumps Trump with Inspiring Muslim Solidarity Pledge

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, Zuckerberg said that the Muslim community should not have to fear being “persecuted for the actions of others” following attacks in Paris and elsewhere carried out by Islamic extremists.

He said that despite belonging to a Jewish family, he was taught to stand against attacks on any community in the world. “Even if an attack isn’t against you today, in time attacks on freedom for anyone will hurt everyone”, he said in a message to his more than 43 million followers.

Zuckerberg’s comments follow the call for a ban on Muslims entering the U.S.by Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. Muslims have also received backlash in the wake of the Paris attacks and San Bernardino massacre. Trump’s campaign added that such a ban should remain in effect “until our country’s representatives can figure out what is going on”.

Trump had previously suggested that all Muslims in the US would be required to register in a database in order to track their activity. In addition, Zuckerberg is slightly more tech-savvy than the world’s premier lover of bad combovers, so we doubt there’ll be any Jeb Bush-style domain hacks. “They say, ‘Donald, you brought something up to the fore that is so brilliant and so fantastic'”.

Zuckerberg promised Muslims that Facebook “will fight to protect your rights and create a peaceful and safe environment for you”. Mr. Zuckerberg wrote how hate can lead a person to “succumb to cynicism” and how the birth of his first child and daughter, Max, has given him hope. He added that he would help ensure that Facebook will remain a “peaceful and safe environment” for Muslim users of the site. “We must not lose hope”, he implored. We all must band together, support each other, and make a positive impact on the world, rather than spouting hate and dissonance.
