Gould misses another late FG, Bears fall 24-21 to Redskins

Sunday against the Bears, quarterback Kirk Cousins made some terrific throws and some poor ones, including an interception that Chicago quarterback Jay Cutler quickly parlayed into a tying touchdown.

ABOUT THE REDSKINS (5-7): Washington had a chance to open up a lead in the NFC East on Monday but failed to keep Dallas out of field-goal range in the final seconds of a 19-16 home setback. The Redskins (6-7) hung on to break a nine-game road losing streak dating to last season. Gould, who missed the potential victor at the end of regulation in last week’s overtime loss to San Francisco, got a chance to redeem himself.

His 50-yard attempt wasn’t even close as it sailed wide right.

But no Redskin made more plays against Chicago than tight end Jordan Reed, who had his first 100-yard receiving game of the season.

Now that they finally came out on top away from home, the Redskins will try to do something else for the first time this season – win two in a row.

A body believed to be that of his brother-in-law Michael Cavallari was discovered Thursday in southern Utah.

-Catching six of nine targets for 107 yards and a 20-yard touchdown, wideout Alshon Jeffery did plenty of damage on Sunday.

Morris plowed into the end zone after Reed got stopped about a foot short on a reception on the game’s first possession, and the Redskins added to their lead early in the second quarter when Cousins ran it in from the 3 after a fake handoff.

“It’s Groundhog’s Day”, Cutler said. “I liked the way we overcame some adversity throughout the course of the game”.

Cutler again was inaccurate on deep throws, perhaps a residual effect of being under regular duress, sacked three times and hit three others by a Washington pass rush that mustered zero QB hits a week ago.

Chicago (5-7) is coming off a heartbreaking overtime loss to the 49ers. It was the Bears’ first touchdown in the third quarter this season.

Kyle Fuller stepped in front of what appeared to be an underthrown pass by Cousins at the Washington 30 and returned it to the 21.

Washington isn’t that good of a team, but somehow in a very weak NFC East they are tied atop the division with Philadelphia at 6-7. DeSean Jackson hobbled around after suffering an apparent knee injury and was not much of a factor.
