Mourinho: Ranieri deserves credit for Leicester position

Jose Mourinho’s claim that Chelsea’s season is finally heading in the right direction will face a stern test when the Premier League champions visit unexpected pace-setters Leicester City tomorrow. But the Portuguese is dismayed to see English clubs appoint foreign managers with relatively little success.

Mourinho said the 28-year-old England global could succeed anywhere, although his direct style would be tested. “Their memory is unbelievable because, if not, they don’t treat me the way they do, they don’t treat the players the way they do, they don’t create a nice Stamford Bridge for us”.

“To come here, you had to do something serious”.

“I think this is very normal”. At home they have four wins, two draws and one loss. “So in this moment I am less anxious than I was”.

They have kept just three clean sheets in the league all season. But I feel sympathy.

“Teams like Porto like to play more”. We started a different relationship in that moment. We have Paolo [Sousa] in Fiorentina.

“I am proud but I was also proud when I left Valencia and my players twice reached the final of the Champions League”. The best way is not to cry.

“For Chelsea to move forward, you’ve got to stick with the manager and let him do what he does best”.

However, Mourinho begs to differ and stated that Vardy’s style would remain unchanged no matter where he goes. In that case I will be good as well.

But he added: “Nobody said “thank you”. Why?”

The Chelsea manager said: “I think he should win manager of the half term”. We need to score more goals.

“Then when I went to Austria with the players (pre-season), I thought, ‘This is fantastic, fantastic.’ The players were united as a group. For them, it’s more hard”.

The Sun quotes the Blues boss as saying ahead of Chelsea’s visit of Leicester on Monday: “He is top scorer and it is normal big clubs want him”. The Italian coach is now working wonders with Leicester and will hope to inflict further damage on his former club’s dismal season. This was when he was in Juventus and I was at Inter Milan. He has a history.

No side have allowed their opponents more shots on target from inside the box this season than Chelsea (57).

“But for me it is finished there, my job finished one year before they won the title”.

Going into the 16th round of fixtures, Claudio Ranieri’s vibrant side are two points clear of Arsenal at the top and brimming with confidence. “It’s a very, very, very rich career, so he has a history”. In the past 20 years, only one team that was top after 15 games has failed to finish in the top four and Leicester’s owners would be wise to invest properly in January to ensure that dream comes true.
