Bournemouth’s Arter dedicates win to family after tragedy

It was another display bereft of any urgency or fluidity for Manchester United and Louis van Gaal admitted he was disappointed with his sides display during the game, especially in the second half.

Manchester United and Arsenal are two teams who seem now to perennially suffer somewhat ridiculous injury crises mid-way through a season.

Days after beating champions Chelsea 1-0 at Stamford Bridge, Eddie Howe and his men claimed another major scalp.

For United, the result ended a week to forget as a goalless draw at home to West Ham was followed up by Champions League elimination with defeat in Wolfsburg.

The Bournemouth striker admitted his winning goal in the little south-coast club’s fairytale 2-1 Premier League home victory over United meant a lot to him after spending so long battling to make his name with England’s most famous club. Though the Cherries are still in the lower reaches of the league – ahead of a startlingly struggling Chelsea – sitting two points above the relegation zone is exceeding expectations.

Did van Gaal get this one horribly wrong?

The hosts were ahead nearly straight away as Stanislas’ corner drifted over everyone to nestle in David De Gea’s net with less than three minutes on the clock.

Howe admitted that it was an emotional dressing room following the win: “It’s been a hugely emotional week for him”, said Howe.

Seven years ago, while United was still basking in the glory of its third European title, Bournemouth was in the fourth tier contending with a 17-point deduction.

Joshua King: May have been forced off with injury but very much deserved his goal after harassing United’s inexperienced defence for much of the afternoon.

The big Belgian made the most of his start, leading United on the day with 5 shots, 3 of which were on goal, and of course, the goal that leveled the match in the 24th minute.

Swansea, who sacked Garry Monk on Wednesday, looked to have earned a point when Bafetimbi Gomis scored a 90th-minute equaliser, only for Yaya Toure’s shot to hit team-mate Iheanacho and loop in two minutes later. ‘I didn’t know that, and all the emotions of that game came flooding back.

“It definitely gives us belief we can stay up”, he said. “My family would want me to play”, Arter told the club website.

It was a further reminder of what Di Maria-who has managed nine assists and four goals in 13 league outings so far this season-is capable of.
