Fitzpatrick, Defense Lead Jets To 30-8 Victory Over Titans

The Titans announced Friday that Wright would be out Sunday due to the injuries he suffered in a 42-39 win over the Jaguars on December 6.

Walker has 67 receptions for 800 yards and four touchdowns this season, numbers that should grow even more with quarterback Marcus Mariota fully healthy.

Marcus Williams, Revis’ backup, is questionable with a sprained knee that kept him out against the Giants last Sunday. “The first half was a good example of if you play poorly in all three phases you’re going to have a hard time against a good football team, let alone anyone in this league”. “We can stop the run and make people one dimensional”.

“Give credit to (the Jets)”.

To paraphrase Michael Corleone: Jets fans think they’re out, and Gang Green keeps pulling them back in. “It has to be corrected”. The Jets sacked him five times.

Throughout the majority of this season, the Jets have struggled to jump on teams early, normally beginning games a bit sluggish before catching on in the second quarter. Fitzpatrick now has 25 touchdown passes on the year, four shy of tying Vinny Testaverde’s franchise record for a single season. Titans interim head coach Mike Mularkey faced the Jets for the seventh time as a head coach. The Titans are now 2-4 since Mularkey replaced Ken Whisenhunt. “My freshman year at Oregon I took a couple of hits and it kind of woke me up”, Mariota said.

I had circled this game, and next week’s game with the Patriots on the calendar when the schedule came out last spring as a test for this young team after they had some time to gel with a rookie quarterback.

Todd Bowles has said about the paid: “They’re both good football players”.

Reading a Titans blitz, Fitzpatrick got rid of the ball over the middle to Powell who had come out of the backfield as a check-down receiver and took it across the right side of the field, beating a pair of Titans defenders into the end zone, giving the Jets a 20-0 lead.

On their next possession, the Jets drove 72 yards in seven plays, scoring on Powell’s 16-yard reception from Fitzpatrick.

Mularkey called his team’s tackling “questionable” in the game.

“Our headsets went down that series prior to running out there so there was no communication to upstairs or to the linebackers”, Mularkey said. The Jets outgained the Titans 439-292 overall.

The Jets might have pitched a shutout if not for a third-quarter trick play by the Titans.

The Titans ended the Jets’ hopes for a shutout when back Antonio Andrews threw a 41-yard touchdown pass to Mariota out of the Wildcat.

Jurrell Casey almost atoned the Titans’ defensive mistake, as he rushed towards the unguarded Marshall at the start of the play. The quarterback ended the game passing for 335 yards and a touchdown. It was the third straight game, and sixth this season, that NY has held opponents under 75 yards rushing.

“The guys did a great job of selling it, and I just had an opportunity, ” Mariota said. The arm of Mariota is improving every week, last week he would of had a ideal game had it not have been for a big dro by his receiver that turned into an interception.

“You’re still talking about one of the best corners in the game”, defensive coordinator Kacy Rodgers said Thursday. We have a tough team coming up with Dallas. “I think it helped us today”.
