Manuel Pellegrini accepts Manchester City’s good fortune in win over Swansea

It was a second stunning win in a week for Eddie Howe’s promoted Bournemouth following their 1-0 triumph at champions Chelsea last weekend and took them three points clear of the relegation zone.

Everton remains in ninth place after squandering a chance to close on the leading sides in a 1-1 draw at Norwich City.

Ayew and his side travelled to play Manchester City in the Premier League where the former Olympique Marseille player and his side were denies everything in the game after coming so close against Yaya Toure’s team.

City scored three late goals to erase a halftime deficit and claim the top spot in their group for the first time in club history.

Swansea are now without win in five matches coupled with the dismissal of manager Gary Monk last week. The whole squad has just suffered a collective loss of form, but whoever comes in will be aware that the club has a crop of players that is well capable of competing higher up the Premier League.

“We’ve just been told they’re going to try to get someone in as soon as possible”, said Gylfi Sigurdsson, the Swansea playmaker who was excellent as a false nine in a 4-3-3 that caused City plenty of trouble.

“But I think to win the Premier League this season will be very hard and it will take less than 80 points”. “We need every point we can and we will strive to be competitive and get something out of a hard game”.

“To concede in the 90th minute, it’s obviously hard but luckily for us we scored the goal and that is the most important thing”.

However, City broke the deadlock in the 25th minute as Wilfried Bony lost his marker to head home Jesus Navas’ corner at the near post.

With such a cluster of teams near the top as we approach the halfway point in the season, the Blues coach does not see the best team this year scaling the same heights. “In the Champions League you can have a bad game, go out in the semi-final and nobody remembers what you did”, he said. “It doesn’t matter if it is Yaya’s goal or Kelechi’s goal”.

Swansea were the better team in the second half and might have had an equaliser much sooner than they did were it not for the brilliance of Hart in the home goal.

They forced some decent saves from Joe Hart, who was named man of the match, after Ivorian Bony, bought by City from Swansea for 30 million pounds at the start of the year, put them ahead in the 26th minute.

Caretaker manager Alan Curtis attempted to halt Swansea’s slide by picking a side without a recognised centre-forward, as Stoke City had when they beat City 2-0 seven days earlier.
