Star Citizen Raises $100 Million, Alpha 2.0 Launches
“They been there from the beginning when we launched Star Citizen‘s funding campaign three years ago”. Star Citizen, which continues to raise funds, recently passed the $100 million mark – a feat it managed just days after opening the long-awaited Alpha 2.0 update to backers.

Cloud Imperium Games, developer of the new space sim Star Citizen, have announced this to be a major milestone in the game’s ongoing development. Many players are active participants in forums, fan events, live streams, social media, and other events designed to give backers direct access to the dev team creating the game.
Have you tried the latest build of Star Citizen, or will you wait until the game is fully completed to jump in? However, support by the community indicates faith in one of the most ambitious projects of the generation. With each massive cash influx the ambition of the game grew, and with it came many delays, leading to frustrated backers requesting refunds.
Despite abandoning stretch goals after reaching $65m, the studio has continued to allow players to donate towards the game’s development and there seem to be no signs of closing the crowdfunding page. Star Citizen is an MMO and may be released at some point in 2016 and remains in Alpha now. “If I was a little saner I wouldn’t be biting off as much as we’re doing here”, Roberts told The Verge previous year, “but it’s the game that I’ve wanted to play and dreamed about playing forever”. Also, it’s time to finally get out of the ship and get up close and personal, as the game adds first-person combat for the first time. There’s also a new “quantum travel” feature that lets you quickly speed across the galaxy. Players will explore Crusader, a new planet with three moons and three distinct space stations.

At any rate, with such a huge financial sum supporting Star Citizen, the bar for quality is set extremely high.
