Differing opinions in 49ers locker room whether they overlooked Browns

Johnny Manziel made a triumphant return as starting quarterback and Isaiah Crowell rushed for two touchdowns to help the Cleveland Browns snap a seven-game losing streak and beat the San Francisco 49ers 24-10 on Sunday.

Before the start of the Browns game against the San Francisco 49ers, “Money” Manziel signed a fan’s $100 bill, ESPN reported. The Browns were playing with the lead, and that was the difference.

Outside linebacker Ahmad Brooks, however, also suggested the 49ers may have taken the Browns for granted.

THE CROW FLIES: Crowell had runs of 54 and 50 yards as the Browns, who came in with the NFL’s worst rushing attack, rolled up 230 yards their most since 2010.

We recognized the names, but it sure didn’t seem like the Cleveland Browns we’ve seen in recent weeks. “We did not execute”, Tomsula said. “It’s not an excuse”.

Marcus Martin, who started his 13th game of the season at center, took over for Boone when he exited the game.

“We all took a step backward today”, Tomsula added. We got the win last week and maybe we got a little big-headed and thought things would happen.

“We’re in a position where we have to play our (butt) off every week, and today we didn’t do that”. He was 21 of 31 for 270 yards and a touchdown. Then the first-year coach attempted an audible autopsy on why his 49ers (4-9) played such a poor football game. With the Browns heading toward another off-season house-cleaning, Manziel could end up as trade bait, but more performances like he had in Week 14 would make it more hard for the Cleveland GM, whomever it is, to consider that possibility. The win was the third of the season for the Browns, the second of which was guided by Manziel.

MARKDOWN: That said, Manziel’s quarterback rating in the first half (69.2) was still better than Gabbert’s first-half rating (57.0).

Others, however, said the 49ers indeed were mentally prepared. At halftime, they had two first downs and were being outgained 255-48 in total yardage.

Like most of the losses earlier this season, the 49ers didn’t come to play.

Dawson will be a free agent after this season and was asked about returning to Cleveland.

After back-to-back games on the road, the 49ers next will host the Cincinnati Bengals, who lost quarterback Andy Dalton to a fractured thumb in Sunday’s game against Pittsburgh. He gave equal credit to the game plan of offensive coordinator John DeFilippo. And as the moments were replayed, Dawson was overcome with memories of a place he’ll always cherish.

“I’ve got to find a way to get rid of the ball”, Gabbert said. “I know the number is starting to climb, but for me, these mean a lot to me”. The 49ers made a decision to go for it on fourth-and-1 on the Browns’ 30 on the first play of the second quarter and Gabbert was sacked for a 6-yard loss by rookie linebacker Nate Orchard.

Coons had a field goal blocked for the third straight game on the opening drive.

The Browns sacked 49ers quarterback Blaine Gabbert nine times.

When Dawson lined up and booted his 44-yarder, even some Browns fans applauded him. “We’re a pretty good team, me and him”. It’s a special day. “When it’s towards himself over frustration of doing something boneheaded, I have no problem with it”.
