The UFC’s Vice President of Public Relations, Dave Sholler, opened Saturday night’s post-fight press conference by providing the gathered media with some impressive numbers.

Maybe the most anticipated UFC fight of the year, Conor McGregor vs Jose Aldo, and it ended in 13 seconds.

Aldo pulled out two weeks before his last scheduled fight with McGregor in July, citing a rib injury, and perhaps that would have been the wiser move this time around, too.

“I don’t know what I would be doing if I didn’t find martial arts and martial arts didn’t find me”, McGregor said in 2013. But, since McGregor has become a megastar, and is making serious bank for the UFC, don’t be surprised if he gets the greenlight to do this.

If Conor McGregor leaves the featherweight division, the UFC seems to have a contingency plan. “The trash talking didn’t affect me”, he said as reported by the Daily Mail. So, I’m an active champion. “We’re going to have to come back here”. It’s been a insane year for me.

The Brazilian had not lost a fight for 10 years and had made seven successful defences of his UFC featherweight title. Dana White has shown a canny understanding of what the fans want in the past, so it would be surprising to see him push this fight through. It’s just that after getting clobbered, Aldo didn’t remember it.

McGregor’s success is the culmination of years of hard work, against all odds he’s changed the face of one of the biggest sports in the World.

McGregor’s next fight will be a title bout at either featherweight or lightweight.

McGregor said the weight cut to 145 was rigorous, so a move to 155 for the lightweight belt would also provide some comfort. In the chaos of a career-defining triumph, McGregor says he still sought out Aldo to offer some measure of consolation for the fallen champion. “If I go up to that lightweight division there’s no way in hell that I’m vacating my belt”.

One fan climbed up the giant gold lion statue in the MGM and stood on top with an Irish flag draped over his shoulders. “I think this fight here, I think now we have to go to a rematch”. “I never fall for provocations, I stay with a clear head (calm mind) in there, man. I have to get in there and do my job. I’ll listen to all angles and then I’ll make a decision”. “When you bring in a $10.1 million gate, back-to-back MGM records, the pay-per-views that we’re bringing in here, it’s nothing but good business-times are good”. Neither fighter held the championships concurrently, however, and that is the goal that McGregor hopes to reach.

According to official sources, both fighters earned a cool $500,000 from simply stepping into the octagon with a $100,000 win bonus for Aldo if he had won.
