Arsenal’s next league fixture is at the Emirates against Manchester City and Touré, arguably the only other top-level box-to-box midfielder in the division.

Olivier Giroud scored another penalty, which was his 50th in the Premier League, and also keeps improving his scoring record going, and Wenger is hoping that the stats will finally convince his critics that he actually a top striker, despite what his critics say.

‘It’s a busy period and we have to remain consistent through that and see where we are in the New Year. “We spent a lot of energy away in the Champions League on Wednesday, but found the resources to win again here today (Sunday), in another away match. But we believe we can challenge for trophies”, Aaron Ramsey told Sky Sports. “This is an opportunity for us to find that consistency”.

Aaron Ramsey dispossessed Idrissa Gana near Arsenal’s 18-year-box and the ball fell to Ozil.

Villa were incensed with the award of Arsenal’s early penalty which referee Kevin Friend took his time to award. But since his return, things have changed for the better for Arsenal.

Ramsey demonstrated his all-round game for Arsenal’s second, winning back possession with a perfectly-timed tackle before instigating a counter-attack and then, 80 yards further up the pitch, slotting the ball into the net.

Arsenal eased to a comfortable 2-0 victory at Aston Villa yesterday to soar to the summit of the Premier League and leave their hapless opponents rooted at rock bottom. To put that in perspective, no other player has more than seven.

His tackle deep in his own half set up Arsenal’s second – which he scored – to seal the points against Villa and send Arsenal top.

Arsenal’s fans’ happiness at seeing their side go top was enhanced hours later when arch rivals Tottenham Hotspur’s 14-game unbeaten run was ended by a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Newcastle United. He is very efficient and a very important player for the team.
