Schneiderman is calling on New Yorkers to test and submit their household internet speeds. “Families pay a huge cost already for Internet access in NY, so I will not tolerate a situation in which they aren’t getting what they have been promised”.

The site includes an online test that lets you see if your internet speed actually matches what you’re paying for.

About the new website, a recent release from Schneiderman’s office states that the online Internet speed test form can be used by New Yorkers to test their Internet speeds, and then submit the details about the Internet speeds which they are receiving at home. “Too many of us may be paying for one thing, and getting another”, Schneiderman said in a related statement.

All of the ISPs claim they give customers their advertised broadband speeds, although Mr. Schneiderman is questioning whether or not that’s true.

The AG previously asked these service providers to provide his office with customer disclosures and any testing done to measure Internet speeds.

“The attorney general has the authority to commence legal action to enjoin deceptive, fraudulent or illegal business practices”, Wu added, “and to obtain restitution, penalties and costs”. If you live in NY, it might not be just you.
