Trumbo Leads Screen Actors Guild Nominations
It’s hard to know exactly what to make of Wednesday’s Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations.

Ensemble cast nominations included “Beasts of No Nation”, “The Big Short”, “Spotlight”, “Straight Outta Compton” and “Trumbo”.
Also getting two nominations: “Room”, “
“The Martian”, “The Hateful Eight”, “Joy”, “Concussion“, “Creed”, “Youth” and “45 Years” were among high-profile, Oscar-contending films entirely snubbed by SAG.
The SAG ensemble award is the equivalent of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ best picture Oscar.
Unlike the Oscars and Golden Globes, SAG lets film distributors decide the categories in which to place their candidates.
Blanchett is on track to pick up the seventh Oscar invite of her career after SAG voters in Los Angeles on Wednesday gave her a nod for her performance in the 1950s romantic-drama, Carol.
Surprisingly, Rachel McAdams fared a little better.
Trumbo is based on the life of Hollywood screenwriter Dalton Trumbo and a group of directors who were shunned for their associations to the Communist Party in the year 1947.
Dame Helen Mirren was also nominated in multiple categories, scoring nods for her lead performance in Woman In Gold and her supporting role as Hedda Hopper in Trumbo.
Kiwi actor Dean O’Gorman figures in the Screen Actors Guild Awards with his portrayal of Kirk Douglas in the Hollywood blacklist drama Trumbo helping the movie score a best cast nomination.
Longtime comedian Sarah Silverman, who plays a woman struggling with mental illness in “I Smile Back”, earned a lead actress nomination.
The prize for supporting actor will be disputed between Christian Bale for The Big Short, Mark Rylance by the Cold War thriller Bridge of Spies, Michael Shannon in 99 Homes and young actor Jacob Tremblay for his role of a child in captivity in Room.

Actors competing in the comedy series category are Ty Burrell (“Modern Family“), Louis C.K. (“Louie“), William H. Macy (“Shameless“), Jim Parsons (“The Big Bang”) and Jeffrey Tambor (“Transparent“). Carol Burnett will receive a lifetime achievement award at the ceremony.

Longtime Palisades resident Bill Murray is nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Mini-series or Television Movie for his Netflix special “A Very Murray Christmas“.
