Klopp takes blame for Mignolet error against West Brom

Later on, Klopp explained his spat with West Brom manager Tony Pulis, with whom he refused to shake hands at full-time, leading to Baggies assistant David Kemp seemingly grabbing the German to try and force him into one. The Reds skipper timed his run perfectly, finishing past Myhill with a first-time strike for his first league goal of the season.

This has seen Mignolet heavily criticized on social media and by critics, but Klopp has backed the shot-stopper and claimed that it wasn’t the 27-year-old’s fault for the goal.

He said: “I said to Simon at half time, “if somebody says it is your fault, you can say it’s not true, it’s my fault”, because I want a keeper who helps”. Sometimes with me it is like this, do what you want.

Liverpool’s manager celebrated provocatively in front of his West Brom counterpart after Divock Origi scored a 96th minute equaliser before they were separated; the pair never shook hands at the final whistle, with Pulis going straight down to the tunnel and Klopp joining his players on the pitch.

The row began when West Brom midfielder Craig Gardner caught Dejan Lovren with a thunderous tackle, which led to the Liverpool defender being carried off on a stretcher.

Centre-back Martin Skrtel was in no man’s land for much of the game, and even allowed Olsson to move off him and comfortably head home the second for the visitors, thereby accentuating his lethargy.

“The opponent was only playing long balls, only set-plays, and if you get points like this, do it, but not here”.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp insists his current squad has the qualities to succeed this season as he remains hesitant over signing players during the summer transfer window. “It looked offside. I saw the referee speaking to the linesman and they decided it was offside – I think that was right decision”. He’s not had the easiest situation before I came here, but since I have been here there has been nothing to criticise, absolutely nothing.

Pulis defended Gardner over the challenge on Lovren. I have no problems with that.

Liverpool remained in control in the second half, but West Brom went ahead in the 73rd minute.

Liverpool were reeling after a stunning 2-0 loss to Newcastle United last week, and needed something against West Bromwich Albion to get back into the race for a top-four spot in the Premier League. “We need to keep working on it and improve quickly because it’s cost us two points”.
