Heitkamp said the central part of the state could receive anywhere from 6 to 10 inches of snow.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for most of the state from 8 pm on Sunday until 5 am on Tuesday.

Timing: Snow looks to begin across Carbon and Converse Counties as early as Monday late afternoon that will spread east into Albany County to the Laramie Range by Tuesday morning.

Beyond Wednesday, high pressure will build in by Thursday and much sunnier skies are expected through the weekend.

This includes Salt Lake City, which could see its heaviest snowstorm since an unnamed winter storm dumped 13.3 inches on the city January 27-30, 2013.

Tuesday night into Wednesday, low pressure strengthens and heads toward the Upper Midwest, wrapping snow around its circulation in the northern Plains, Upper Mississippi Valley and northern Great Lakes. Clouds will increase throughout the evening Monday, becoming overcast by midnight. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for most valley locations.

Tuesday’s snow will likely be accompanied by wind gusts, reducing visibility to less than a half a mile. The combination of snow and wind will make travel over all passes very tricky at times.
