Louis van Gaal had been on the look out for a new right-back this summer with Rafael expected to leave the club after falling out-of-favour under the Dutchman and Darmian emerged as a key target in recent weeks.

In addition, Louis van Gaal likes to put out a more physically imposing defensive unit and at 6 feet tall, he might be seen as an upgrade to the 5’7 Rafael by the Dutchman.

“I think he is one of the few high-talented boys of his age in the world”, said van Gaal.

Torino coach Giampiero Ventura has given his blessing to Matteo Darmian to join Manchester United. Manchester United have been looking for a right back for qutie some time now.

Materazzi praised Darmian and urged him to take the opportunity that has been given to him at Old Trafford. I want to be there.

With attacking full-backs being such an asset in the modern game, as opposing wingers often forget to track back, any clubs that utilise limited players in these roles are missing a trick. During his four years at Torino he emerged as an extremely skillful full-back, who is now admired by a host of top sides across Europe.

Liverpool forward Raheem Sterling has missed training for a second successive day. When I first hear of Darmian, I didn’t know who he was in the slightest way. Yet the fact that United spent some of last season operating with a back three, which Van Gaal’s Netherlands also used in the 2014 World Cup, means that a change of shape is also possible.

“But I cannot complain about the professional attitude of my players”.

A high-class specialist right-back.

“I am excited about coming here to do my job and score goals”.

“And you can hear he is full of confidence but he will notice it is not so easy in the Premier League”.

Aston Villa have signed goalkeeper Mark Bunn on a two-year deal, the Barclays Premier League club have announced.

“It is a big difference with the Dutch league”.
