Manchester United’s Michael Carrick: ‘It’s been a tough week to take’
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has insisted that his side must make immediate amendments after suffering a shocking 2-1 loss to Bournemouth if they are to harbour any hopes of claiming the Premier League title.

Coupled with their exit from the Champions League last week, the pressure is certainly building on Van Gaal, but they remain in the hunt for honours both at home and overseas.
Speaking to Sean O’Rourke on RTÉ Radio 1 this morning, Dunphy said Van Gaal’s position was now untenable though, on the bright side, he reckons Jose Mourinho won’t be long in joining his old mentor on the scrap-heap. That’s all we can focus on.
Howe, who said he would probably celebrate the United win by taking his dog for a walk, was asked whether he could find time to enjoy the moment. We need to win three games in a week just to still be up there after Christmas.
United equalised through Marouane Fellaini’s scruffy finish, but Bournemouth struck back and sealed the win through Josh King.
“It was really important for us that we didn’t lose the momentum we had built and that one result [against Chelsea] wasn’t a result in isolation”.
“It’s been a tough one to take, very disappointing week”, Sky Sports News quotes Carrick as saying.
“And then to come here, we wanted to bounce back”.
“We looked at their team, especially their back four, and knew we could exploit that while staying wary of their front three, who always looked risky”.
“I think he’s handled himself with real dignity throughout the process, and to play the way he did today, with the emotions running through his body, I can’t credit him enough for that”.
“They’ve stepped in and done well”.
“I don’t like making excuses, we’ve got the squad, we’re the club that we are because we want to be fighting in the competition”.
“To be out of the Champions League is a big blow for us – you can’t deny that”, he said.
“We’re professional players, we want to be playing at the top level, we want to be testing ourselves at the top level”, he added.
“Two set plays, two goals: you can not accept that as a manager, a player, a team, because we pay a lot of attention to it”.
Recognition of Arter’s valiant act was also evident on social media as people posted tributes to the 25 year-old.

“They’ll be disappointed to be out of the Champions League but they’ve got the Europa League to go for”. When that comes around we’ll deal with that.
