Porsche to add ‘718’ prefix to next-gen Boxster and Cayman models
Porsche is harking back to their previous model when they release their newly renovated Boxster and Cayman next year called Porsche 718 Boxster and Porsche 718 Cayman, respectively.

With the development of the first-generation Boxster in the 1990s, Porsche continued the long tradition of mid-engine sports cars and still does so today.
According to the details shared by Porsche, the new Boxster and Cayman models will be equipped with smaller 2.0-liter 4-cylinder boxer engines combined with turbo charging technology, in place of the 2.7-liter six-cylinder naturally-aspirated flat sixes powering the present 981-models. The cars have also been downsized to a four-cylinder engine for the 2016 models.
It is a known fact that turbocharged four-cylinder engines are coming to the Boxster and Cayman, so they are just getting a new name along with the new motors.
Porsche intends to give their customers the same level of excellence in their new Boxster and Cayman models that the original Porsche 718 had.
The 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman will share more similarities than ever before – both visually and technically. Moreover, Porsche will have higher pricing for the Roadster when compared to the Coupe as was its policy with the 911 models. It was the evolution of the famous 550 race vehicle, indeed, the model that brought Porsche its first victory in a major sports auto race and which James Deans fatally crashed on the road.

Whether it was at the 12-hour race in Sebring in 1960 or the European Hill Climb Championship which ran between 1958 and 1961, the Porsche 718 prevailed against numerous competitors with its powerful and efficient flat-four cylinder engine.
