You’ll need to be level 10 or higher to unlock Rival Challenges, at which point you’ll have a few Guitar Upgrades and Hero Powers to take into battle with you. The Rival Challenges should come up twice in each half-hour block across all GHTV channels. The song choices will be picked by developers.

You can also get some more information on the new Rival Challenge feature if you head there.

Your opponent will be of relatively close skill level, paired with you through our underlying matchmaking technology. Once the song ends, the victor will receive an extra 100 Status XP and additional souls based on their rival’s level. In GHTV, fans can also play with their friends in the same room and against players from around the world to see who has the highest score on a given song, while completing challenges along the way. Another was showing off your playercards and note highways to others.

Last month, Activision added 34 new songs to “Guitar Hero Live’s” on-demand service including songs from Judas Priest, Five FInger Death Punch, Rush, Kings of Leon, Zedd, Prodigy, Knife Part, Escape the Fate, Black Veil Brides, Atreyu and many more.

Guitar Hero Live was released in October for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, and Wii U. If you log into GHTV with zero plays, we’re giving you a daily reward of three plays so that you can play whichever tracks you want on-demand. This way, a new player won’t be overmatched against a veteran, so all of the music battles will be as fair as possible. However, I would’ve much preferred the ability to choose the songs for myself.
