The Force Awakens red carpet includes Stormtroopers, droids

Police have closed Hollywood Boulevard ahead of the premiere at the TCL Chinese Theatre, where the original movie opened in 1977.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is out in United Kingdom cinemas 17 December.

Abrams, a self-described Star Wars fanboy, told Reuters he was feeling the pressure of releasing the film into the world.

Lucas sold Star Wars to Disney in 2012 for $4.05 billion dollars, and The Force Awakens is the first of a new trilogy and new standalone films from the studio.

Audiences at Hollywood’s TCL Chinese Theater began cheering Monday from the moments the film’s first words appeared onscreen and reacted excitedly to seeing the return of Han Solo and Chewbacca after a 32-year hiatus from the big screen.

Jen Yamato, entertainment reporter for The Daily Beast, tweeted: “The Force Awakens is soooo Star Wars, and Daisy Ridley is the business, and #StarWars”.

Film fans and journalists also flooded Twitter with their first impressions.

But for a lifelong “Star Wars” fan, it was tough being that close to the premiere and not getting a better look.

Stormtroopers joined robots C-3PO and R2D2 on the red carpet as the human stars arrived. He said security was extra tight because of the terror attacks in San Bernardino and Paris.

At one point on the red carpet, Fisher turned the microphone on her co-star, Oscar Isaac, and conducted an interview broadcast on StarWars.com that included her dropping an expletive.

The BFI IMAX in London scheduled the premiere screening of Star Wars: The Force Awakens at 12:01 a.m., Empire Leicester Square IMAX will have it at 12:05 a.m., and Odeon Swiss Cottage IMAX scheduled it at 12:01 a.m.as well.

He added: “The cultural event of the first Star Wars was a seismic shock wave that went round the world and never went away, no franchise in the history of motion pictures has been as incendiary and enduring as Star Wars“.
