Paris climate deal is ‘best chance’ to save planet
Talks in Paris came to a close at the weekend after almost two weeks of tense negotiations, with an agreement to cut emissions and reduce the increase of global temperatures to 2C. Scientists estimate that these commitments would put the planet on course for at best 2.7 degrees Celsius of warming – and that’s only if countries actually follow through on them. “We are not developed but we are suffering from climate change so those who have damaged the environment – the developed world should compensate for that”. It also will require that all countries report on “national inventories of emissions by source” and on their mitigation efforts.

The deal also encourages the spending of trillions of dollars towards adapting to the effects of climate change.
“During my time in Paris I was encouraged by the willingness of everyone to engage in serious discussion on tackling climate change”. For the first time, every country in the world has pledged to curb emissions, strengthen resilience and join in common cause to take common climate action. “This is a resounding success for multilateralism”. “As a result of the climate agreement, we can be more confident that the Earth will be in a better shape”, he said.
Today, the nations of the world concluded a bold and historic agreement, clearly demonstrating that the global community is speaking with one voice to solve the climate crisis.
“Scotland’s response should acknowledge the direction of travel, and we are well placed to make the switch to clean technology to sustain our economy and our society”. It is an agreement of conviction.
In a separate phone call, Obama thanked Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff and congratulate her and Environment Minister Izabella Teixeira for their leadership in achieving a historic climate agreement. “It is an agreement of long-term vision, for we have to turn this agreement into an engine of safe growth”.
Secretary of State John Kerry responded to Inhofe’s comments from Paris, telling reporters, “I have news for Senator Inhofe: The United States of America has already reduced our emissions more than any other country in the world under President Obama’s plans”.

United Nations climate envoy Janos Pasztor described the deal as a “monumental achievement” and said it sends a message to the financial markets that it’s time to invest in low-carbon energy.
