Twitter Moments Curated News Service Arrives In The UK
Twitter this morning launched Moments, another new feature that initially sounds like it’s been ripped right out of the heart of Facebook.

Already established in the US, Twitter Moments presents trends and news events in a content-rich fashion, that you can see without hundreds of other tweets and scan through quickly. Back then, Wired magazine described it as “Twitter’s most important feature ever” as the company seeks to address how it can make the platform accessible to the mass market. Users can then swipe through all of the curated content associated with that moment, favoriting and retweeting items as they go.
Twitter has casted Moments as a transformative feature for the social network that has struggled to attract significant user growth year over year.
Twitter is now currently testing the Moments service throughout the United Kingdom and from today Twitter will begin rolling out the lightning symbol to its applications and website.
Since it was founded in 2006, Twitter has gained millions of dedicated users who enjoy the fast-paced, real-time nature of the service.
‘Among them are things you can’t experience anywhere but on Twitter – conversations between world leaders and celebrities, citizens reporting events as they happen, cultural memes, live commentary on the night’s big game, and many more. These tweets will have the lightning bolt icon next to them so you can distinguish them from regular tweets. In the first case, we had the infamous Leytonstone Tube station clip, as well as a bit of reaction, while the second took us to tweets and pictures from actors and guests, as well as a view of the crowd.
What kind of stories will I see on there?
Twitter is monetizing Moments with an ad format called “Promoted Moments”, which places stories curated by brands in the Moments homepage.
Madhu Muthukumar is Twitter’s project manager for Moments.
There’s also a “Moment” for #traveltuesday which brings together content related to Italy’s Amalfi Coast, and another which collates user’s photos of their dogs.
Twitter Moments UK launched with coverage of British astronaut Tim Peake, the opening of Star Wars: Force Awakens, an immigration story from Lesbos, and the fallout from Chelsea’s latest defeat.

The feature launched in the USA in October and was expanded to its first country outside North America with its launch in Brazil last month.
