The game’s publisher, Activision, has officially introduces the game’s “Call of Duty Points”, which will be the game’s main currency.

The good thing about this is that, unlike the new “Call of Duty” Points, which need to be purchased with real money, the Black Market additions can easily be obtained just from playing “Call of Duty: Black Ops 3”. It will not be available to those on the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360. These can be used to get either more Supply Drops in multiplayer or more Vials of Liquid Divinium when in the Shadows of Evil mode. The developer and publisher also noted that all of the items available for purchase can be acquired through regular gameplay without the need for Call of Duty points. These have to be unlocked from the Black Market using Cryptokeys. Along with adding new features and balance changes, it also adds micro-transactions to the game. Destiny added microtransactions a couple of months ago, and they have proven extremely successful.

The patch also brought new Prestige Icons (thanks, Reddit). For example, Halo 5 has microtransactions, but has them in lieu of making players pay for new maps. After a short grace period, it seems as though Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is joining the majority by offering mini-payments for its multiplayer modes.

Regardless, it appears as though microtransactions are here to stay. Starting [today], fans can purchase Call of Duty Points and use them to acquire Rare Supply Drops in Black Ops 3.

You’ll also get the first DLC pack, Awakening (which comes to PlayStation 30 days before anyplace else) when it releases in early 2016.
