Delhi government issued a notice to the Delhi government, Delhi Police and Railways on the further steps in the demolition before demolishing more houses.

Earlier today, the AAP joined by the Trinamool Congress (TMC) protested outside the Parliament against the slum demolition.

The demolition has provoked a political war with Rahul Gandhi making a high profile visit to the slums today and AAP taking its protests against the Centre to Parliament.

The Delhi government also need to help them by providing the facilities of food, drinking water, night shelters and offering them residential facilities, the BJP leader said. “Indian Railways will submit a plan to the government on where it needs land for its projects and the government will take it up on priority to first rehabilitate JJ clusters on that land before handing it over to the railways”, said Kejriwal.

Delhi Congress chief Ajay Maken also claimed that Kejriwal should have “intervened” into the matter when the drive was being executed yesterday and not afterwards. Meanwhile, the Delhi Government has ordered magisterial enquiries into the demolition and also the death of a six month-old child.

“Those who have done this (demolition of shanties) are not humans, instead they are animals”, Kejriwal said. Gandhi said: “We will fight for you…”

Rahul Gandhi said, “There is a law. They carried out the anti-encroachment drive two days ago but did not provide any alternate living arrangements for the people residing there”, Jain said. We came to know about it after it began. “But we will try to protect you, we will fight your battle”. According to Mr Kejriwal, Mr Gandhi was still a “kid”. Dikshit said the demolition of jhuggis could have been done with better coordination between the Centre, state and other agencies at an “appropriate time”.

The Aam Aadmi Party blamed the central government for the demolition.

However, the railways, on its part, said the removal of “fresh encroachment” was necessary for expanding the infrastructure and that the action had been taken after three notices, the first one with a March 14, 2015 deadline.
