Bucks halt Warriors’ streak

The Warriors also failed to reach the century mark in points for the first time all season.

After the Warriors’ run surpassed 20 games, some started to wonder when (and even if) the Golden State Warriors would lose a game this season. The Phoenix outscored the Badgers in the first three quarters and built a lead the latter could not overcome in Madison. The sharpshooting Warriors struggled to find their range on Saturday, shooting barely 40 percent from the floor, including 6 of 26 from behind the arc.

“Nobody wanted to see it come to an end”, said point guard Stephen Curry. The previous three teams with the longest road win streak to start the season (the 1969-1970 New York Knicks, and the 1960-61 and 1961-1962 Boston Celtics) all won the championships in their respective seasons.

The NBA is recognizing Golden State’s streak as 28 and therefore the second-longest in league history behind the 33 straight wins posted by the Los Angeles Lakers in 1971-72.

In a odd twist of flashback fate, the Bucks were also the team that ended the Lakers’ streak with a 120-104 victory on Jan 9, 1972.

Stephen Curry had 28 points on 10-of-21 shooting from the field, including 2 of 8 from 3-point territory. Klay Thompson, returning after missing a game with a sprained ankle, was 4 of 14. “We understand how they were playing coming in, but it is more about us right now”.

While NFL football rules the day in the U.S., European fans are tuning in to the National Basketball Association in big numbers for a rare chance to catch live action and still get a good night of sleep.

Everywhere the Warriors look they can’t help but be compared to those teams of old and can’t escape those ghosts. Including Friday night in Boston, lineups that feature Ezeli and Marreese Speights have clogged Golden State’s normally handsome attack in a noticeable way over their past two contests, and it might’ve made more sense to play Ian Clark and Brandon Rush a bit more.

Regarding The Bucks stopping the Warriors, the people of Milwaukee have got to be proud of their young team as they are winning significant games.

“We have a very flexible team”, Mayo said.

“We just needed a win, period”, Bucks center Greg Monroe said Monday.

The C’s saw fatigue in the first half, scoring just 38 points, but it was that great spirit – the same one we’ve seen in plenty of back-end back-to-backs – that showed in the second half, specifically in the third quarter.

Bucks beat Warriors, 108-95: In the sold-out BMO Harris Bradley Center, amid a playoff-type atmosphere, Milwaukee earned one of its biggest victories in the past decade.

Of course, Warriors (24-1) did pull that one out on Friday. “But for 48 minutes, I don’t think anybody can say we played as hard as they did”.

Draymond Green had 24 points and 11 rebounds for the Warriors. That’s what we’ll be doing after giving them a day off tomorrow. “They played and they’re going to continue to play at a high level. Like if you start off bad, it feels like by the time you wake up, the game’s over”. “It’s probably going to be sore for a couple of days, but I should be back in no time”, he said.

“Now we can focus on what we need to focus on”.

Despite all that, the fact that the Warriors weren’t even expected to get off to a hot start this season is already an accomplishment by itself.
