Georgia moves coaches around for bowl practice

Previous year after the departure of Mike Bobo, John Lilly called the plays in Georgia’s 37-14 win over Louisville in the Belk Bowl. It remains to be seen whether Schottenheimer is leaving Georgia of his own volition or if this is the school pushing him out.

Georgia will be without head coach Mark Richt (who was fired) defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt (who left for Alabama) and now offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer (according to multiple reports) for its bowl game against Penn State. The Bulldogs rank 75th in terms of offense nationally.

Smart said he’s spoken with every assistant on staff but has yet to reveal which coaches he’s retaining. He has coached four fantastic running backs in the last two years: Melvin Gordon and Corey Clement at Wisconsin in 2014 and Nick Chubb and Sony Michel at Georgia in 2015.

Both outlets reported Monday that Schottenheimer has already told the Georgia players that he won’t be with the team when bowl practices begin on Wednesday. While that’s left to be sorted out, McClendon said he wouldn’t worry about his coaching career beyond the upcoming TaxSlayer Bowl against Penn State.

Expect the other vacancies on the coaching staff to have graduate assistants fill them temporarily.
