Star Wars arrives on our shores

The Daily Mail’s Brian Viner described The Force Awakens as “a triumph of escapism and the most exhilarating film yet in this mighty franchise”. The “Star Wars” saga is back, and we are gleefully in it for the long haul. It was a series of stories inspired by and paying tribute to a childhood love of other stories.

Jimmy Fallon is pulling out all the stops in anticipation for Star Wars: The Force Awakens – and in doing so, he produced what MUST become another viral hit!

Star Wars devotees can revel in the nostalgia as the feel and spirit of The Force Awakens goes back to the original films, but it will also capture the imagination of a new generation of Jedi worshippers.

The only question was whether he could stay on target.

Hordes of excited Star Wars fans, media and celebrities have arrived for the New Zealand premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

That lightsaber fight scene in the snowy forest teased in the trailers, I won’t spoil who it’s between, is a highlight with Abrams forgoing CGI animated action for more realistic choreography.

Fans had faith in director JJ Abrams because they felt he would pay homage to the past while taking the story forward; and he delivered.

Thankfully, J.J. Abrams was always going to be the man for the job where satisfying a worldwide, particularly zealous fanbase plus injecting new life into a almost 40-year old franchise was concerned.

And for this “Star Wars” fan, that represents a new hope, indeed.

She and fellow franchise rookie John Boyega, who plays Finn, a stormtrooper who defects and joins the good guys, have great chemistry playing characters who escape harsh origins and find themselves joined in a bigger cause than either could have imagined.

While it certainly helps, and is recommended, to have some familiarity with the previous films, the seventh installment stands on its own as one entertaining night at the movies.
