Participant, the companies said in a statement, will continue to develop, produce and finance issues-based projects separately from the Amblin venture.

Steven Spielberg, Hollywood legend who gets thanked in more Oscar speeches than God, has a new partnership with Universal, the studio behind Spielberg’s most famous films: Jaws, Jurassic Park, E.T. “We are of like minds, as our many collaborations have illustrated, with a mutual commitment to quality, premium entertainment and global vision”. “And this new venture will further Participant’s growth and global impact”.

Mr. Spielberg continued, “We are honored to continue our long-term association with our dear friend, Anil Ambani and his team at Reliance”. Participant invested about $200 million in Amblin Partners, said one of the people. We look forward to working with Steven and Amblin Partners as we build in 2015’s record-breaking year.

The new company, a partnership of Skoll’s Participant, Spielberg’s DreamWorks, eOne and Reliance, will release more adult fare – in the vein of this season’s awards contender, Bridge of Spies – through the DreamWorks label, while family fare will go through Spielberg’s long-standing production label, Amblin. “We continually strive to partner with producers of the highest quality content, and Amblin Partners certainly represents the gold standard”.

Universal Pictures signed a multi-year deal with Amblin, where the studio will market and distribute films produced by Amblin Partners domestically and in select worldwide territories. The initial announcement earlier today revealed that the first film released under the Amblin Partners banner will be The Girl on the Train, which is set for release in October 2016.
