Jose Aldo opens up after stunning UFC 194 loss to Conor McGregor

Aldo is calling for an immediate rematch but McGregor is already eyeing a move up to lightweight and a summer return to defend his belt against Frankie Edgar. “In case you’re curious, a more optimistic estimate for McGregor – say, a $5 PPV cut and 1.5 million PPV buys – would equate to almost $622,000 per second ($8 million total)”. The way the fight ended left a lot to be desired, and even McGregor admitted he wished the fight would have gone a little longer although he felt the outcome would have been the same. Only time will tell for one of the greatest fighters in MMA history. Aldo was previously the only champion the division had ever known.

It remains to be seen what McGregor decides to do regarding his weight class – he vowed that – but it seems like Aldo has no shot at a rematch.

The pair were scheduled to fight on July 11 at UFC 189; although this didn’t come to fruition due to Aldo withdrawing from the fight with injury.

“I kind of said to him, ‘Well, what’s next?'” Kavanagh said. That was never more evident than when he offered to step in on short notice and fight Dustin Poirier in the main event at UFC Dublin before his fight against Aldo.

Although Conor McGregor and Aldo do not like each other, at the end of the day, they recognize that they are just two fighters who want to win.

McGregor defeated Aldo in just 13 seconds after Aldo rushed in with a left hook to McGregor’s face.

“I said to [UFC co-owner] Lorenzo [Fertitta], and I said to [UFC president] Dana [White], I’m bringing in these big numbers”, McGregor continued.

“I think that we need the rematch, it was really not a fight so we need to get back in here.”
