Ernsting worked for the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (OICR), where he was the project lead for a cancer treatment drug, according to his LinkedIn page.
In addition to that Ernsting also worked as a adjunct professor with the Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science at Ryerson University.
Interim Ryerson president Mohamed Lachemi notified the community in an email this afternoon. “Our thoughts are with his loved ones”, the institute said in a statement. Police say there was no previous relationship between the victim, who was out for an evening walk, and the accused, Calvin Michael Nimoh, 21.
Friends and coworkers have been posting messages of condolence on social media.
Barbara Galbraith, who lives in the area, says she had just come into the kitchen around 10 p.m. when she saw police outside and noticed blood on the sidewalk.
