Browns’ Pettine questions 49ers’ fight in Week 14
Coach Mike Pettine, in explaining why the Browns will “cut it loose” Sunday against the surging Seahawks, revealed Wednesday that he didn’t feel the 49ers matched the Browns intensity in their 24-10victory. “No. But he’s certainly played himself into that next tier”, he said Wednesday, via ESPN. There’s a chance of some wind and some rain. Meanwhile, Blaine Gabbert continues as the starter in San Francisco and the often-maligned veteran quarterback will need the help of running back Shaun Draughn to capitalize off of an improbable win last week. We know the challenge that exists. “We got the win last week and maybe we got a little big headed”. “We’re going to go up there, give great effort, compete and see where it falls out”.

“It’s the attitude”, Pettine told the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
“It’s the attitude”, Pettine said.
“I don’t want to take (anything) away from the Cleveland Browns”, Tomsula said. When you talk about just where our season had gotten to and losing seven in a row, two teams in very similar situations, I thought you saw one team that wanted to be out there and wanted to compete and wanted to win a football game.
“I don’t know if I could say that specifically”, Manziel said. The message from the coaches on that can only go so far. As good as Wilson has been – and he’s been great this season – he has a long way to go before he can match the sustained excellence characterizing the top echelon of arguably the greatest era of quarterbacks in National Football League history. The focus, the energy, we had very few mental mistakes.
No one outside of the Browns’ locker room expects much of a game; Vegas has the Seahawks as 14.5-point favorites. “We’re just not going to go up there and put in a day, but as I stressed to the team, that starts today with how we prepare, how we practice”.
Despite Wilson’s remarkable track record in his four National Football League seasons – which includes consecutive trips to the Super Bowl, winning one – it’s hard to place to Wilson quite up there with the quarterbacks cited by Pettine – although had he expanded his top-tier list to five elite quarterbacks, Wilson arguably deserves to be in the mix. Since 2012, Wilson and the Seahawks have won 50 total games. He completed 75 percent for 1,171 yards, 16 touchdowns, no interceptions and a 145.9 rating in the span. He added a rushing touchdown. But Manziel said he hasn’t intently studied Wilson – “Definitely a guy that’s fun to watch”, he said – and wouldn’t single him out as the quarterback he most wants to copy. “Now a lot of that I think is a function too is he’s the flawless quarterback for what they do”.
The problem with what Pettine said though, is Wilson will gladly take the opportunity to show Pettine he’s dead wrong this Sunday when he tries to hand the Browns their 11th loss of the season.
“Defensively, it’s all built around their front four”, Pettine said.
