Last-minute Obamacare customers given two more days to sign up

The White House announced late Tuesday the enrollment deadline for coverage beginning January 1st had been extended by about 48 hours. However, this means that their coverage will also begin later in the year.
About half of customers don’t shop around, Goodman says, because they don’t want to change doctors and hospitals, adding that many insurers use a limited network of health care providers. Federal health officials are encouraging people who signed up for 2015 coverage to review their options again because they might save money by switching to a new health plan.
The final deadline for new enrollments and plan switches is January 31, 2016.

The penalty for not signing up for health insurance is now: 2.5 percent of household income; $695 per adult, $347.50 per child under 18; and has a maximum of of $2,085. The Essential Plan targets lower income individuals and families, offering them premiums of $20 or less per month, depending on income. This deadline extension is for individuals only and does not apply to the small business Marketplace.
