Denver’s Manning, Colts’ Luck back at practice

Brock Osweiler remains the Denver Broncos’ starting quarterback but Peyton Manning might practice this week for the first time since mid-November.

The Denver Broncos’ preference of Brock Osweiler, left, at quarterback may be a ploy to wrest back control of the offense from Peyton Manning, right.

Manning may have his health back, but expect Kubiak to continue to start Osweiler as he has given the Broncos more balance and effectiveness on offense than they had with Manning.

Osweiler is 3-1 while filling in for Manning since the former MVP suffered a foot injury prior to a Week 10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Broncos QB Peyton Manning will practice today, for the first time since being removed from a disastrous game against the Chiefs and put up on the shelf to let his various bruises and tears heal.

Over his career, the 27-year-old Mallett has played in 13 games, throwing five TDs and seven interceptions while compiling a lackluster 62.7 quarterback rating. “We went through a good week last week, gave him a weekend off, so we’ll see where he’s at”.

“I’ve got to see where he’s at; we’ve got to talk through our situation and see where’s he at”, Kubiak said, via ESPN.com. “We’ll have a plan in place by the time we get to Wednesday”.

Not to mention, of the 37 quarterbacks who have attempted at least 47 passes in a game this season, Osweiler is the only one to not throw a touchdown. It’s my job as the quarterback to find the open guy, get the completion, move the offense and score points. “But yeah, it’s a little different watching Peyton run scout team”. Something that I said Denver would need to lean on, in addition to their fantastic defense, when I picked them to win the Super Bowl over Arizona before the year started.

In comparison, Manning and Osweiler are close when it comes to statistics.

Sunday’s game against the Steelers will be big. “And if you’re coming back to practice, then you’re working toward getting back on the field at playing”.

“It was great to have him out there”, Osweiler said.

“I think I’m probably taking myself back to when we came off the bye week against Green Bay”. We’re not supposed to lose that game. “We’re going to stay committed week-to-week, OK”. The Steelers are the first team out of the AFC Wild Card, and also have an outside chance of winning the AFC North with the Bengals ailing after losing Andy Dalton to injury.

“He did fine, he did fine”, Kubiak said following the workout. We just know we have to be hitting on all cylinders by … actually by about right now.

“No, I couldn’t make a judgment” based on one practice, Kubiak said.
