Boone’s season likely over for 49ers

Johnny Manziel completed 21 of 31 passes for 270 yards and one touchdown against one interception.

While looking at the film, Manziel realized his grave mistake and took some accountability for his mistake by taking out his frustrations on a Microsoft Surface tablet when he took a look at the replay.

“Kilgore was a positive out of the game”, Tomsula said.

These numbers won’t wow anybody, and the extra time Manziel has had over nearly two seasons surely benefit him over actual rookies. “He’s a leader in the locker room, he’s a leader in the meeting rooms, he’s a leader on the practice field and then on game day, he’s a guy that wants the ball”. Pettine demoted him to third string, and there was a growing sense that Manziel had finally worn out his welcome in Cleveland.

During warm-ups, a Browns fan leaned over the wall with a $100 bill, which Manziel signed without hesitation. And when he felt pressure, Manziel bought time the way only he can and scrambled to make throws or first downs.

If after last week’s shocking overtime win against the Bears we were anxious the 49ers looked just good enough for Jed York to rationalize keeping Jim Tomsula and Geep Chryst on the coaching staff, I think we can rest easy after yesterday’s disaster of a game against one of the worst teams in the NFL. He is going to keep learning and keep maturing.

NOTES: LG Alex Boone was undergoing an MRI exam on his injured right knee and the expectation is it’s not worth the risk for him to play again this year.

CLEVELAND (AP) – Browns coach Mike Pettine dismisses any outside critics of quarterback Johnny Manziel because they don’t see how hard he’s working to improve.

The Browns did not need Manziel to win them the game, but his presence enabled them to put the game out of reach.

“It is (a blow) because you’re not just losing his production, ” Pettine said, per Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com. “When they see him frustrated after throwing a boneheaded interception and get after himself a little bit, there’s some respect there because they see how competitive he is”.

In the buildup to the game, Tomsula had stressed the importance of stringing together back-to-back strong performances. The Browns visit Seattle this week, where the Seahawks have some of their Super Bowl swagger back.

“(Pettine’s) done a good job, ” he said.

“We’re going to go up there and cut it loose”, he said. “We know that this is a formidable opponent in one of the most hostile environments in the league”.

Hartline broke his collarbone against San Francisco after a four-game stretch where he caught 30 passes for 341 yards with a merry-go-round at quarterback. But because there are just three games remaining in the season, there is no reason to rush Boone back into action.
