Microsoft Ecstatic About Universal Apps: Who Needs Android Apps on Windows 10?

Other notable companies to launch Windows 10 apps include Uber, Shazam, Twitter, Wall Street Journal, Pandora, and NPR. Now you’ll only need to say “Netflix find House of Cards” if you want to find and play that show.

As it turns out, Microsoft is pretty desperate to show momentum in the Windows Store and the new universal app platform, so it has announced alongisde the Netflix news today “the important milestone” of 2.5 billion visits to the Windows Store since the Windows 10 launch in late July.

As previously mentioned, the new Netflix app is a universal app, but it’s worth pointing out that it has yet to do its magic on phones as well.

We’re always happy to see apps get updates, and as Windows Phone users, we’re hoping that Expedia decides to put out a Universal Windows App sometime soon.

“We have published a new version of our Windows 10 app to the Windows Store”. Windows’ mobile market share may not be great, but if an app can work on the desktop too, this could encourage developers to build for Windows 10.

Once logged-in, users can browse categories by swiping vertically and view the titles within any specific category by scrolling horizontally.

The Details view, meanwhile, now shows large, cinematic artwork for the respective movie or TV show.

Despite rumors that Microsoft could at some point bring Android apps on Windows 10 devices, the company is still pushing hard to encourage the adoption of universal apps, which allow the same code, feature lineup, and interface to be used on PCs and smartphones. You can pin the app to your Start Menu to see the song that’s now playing.

When a member is browsing content with a mouse, paginated scrolling of the content within a row is enabled by buttons on the ends of the row.

Many other neat features are in the mix, including a Live Tile for the Netflix app, Cortana for voice searches, and many more.
