Deputy, Civilian Shot in East Tennessee Standoff

Sheriff’s Sgt. Michael Carlock said multiple officers were on the scene and were still working on detaining the suspect at midnight Thursday.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has been called in to investigate the shooting.

Carter County Tennessee officials are investigating the death of a man in an overnight fire Tuesday to Wednesday.

Seconds after they got there the suspect opened fire, shooting off about 30 to 40 rounds.

He said he assisted in getting the people inside the home to a safe nearby location and other deputies then arrived on scene.

Deputies were originally called after reports of a drunken man waving a gun. Lunceford told the paper that she is doing well and the bullets did not enter her skull.

He says an unidentified woman was shot in the hand. She was reportedly flowing to the Johnson City Medical Center for treatment.

Lunceford said the house has not had electricity supplied to it for some time.
