Raiders’ Mack named AFC Defensive Player of the Week

The Oakland Raiders’ Khalil Mack took home the honor.

“We knew that we didn’t want them to score”, said Mack, a 2014 first-round pick out of Buffalo. He was certainly better than the protection his offensive line afforded him. That’s what I’ve been saying.

“We went through a good week last week, gave him the weekend off, so we’ll see where we’re at”, Kubiak said.

The strength to overpower tackles who outweigh him by more than 50 pounds, the speed to get around those lumbering blockers and the developing repertoire of moves that help him get to the quarterback have made Mack one of the most feared defenders in just his second year in the league.

Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning, right, watches warm ups with Denver Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak prior to an NFL football game against the Oakland Raiders, Sunday, Dec. 13, 2015, in Denver.

“Until you get out there and get a bunch of starts under your belt and a bunch of snaps under your belt, sometimes it’s not natural”. I don’t think that any of them bleed together. “We played great defense”. But the guy in this video needed a better plan before he got into a fight on Sunday.

If Manning practices this week, it would be a significant step toward being available to play, if not this week then perhaps December 28 against the Bengals (10-3) as a test of sorts before the playoffs.

But in hindsight, Sanders believes that his remarks were taken out of context.

“I think it’s created early in the week in how you approach the game and how you prepare yourself”, Del Rio said.

“We were really poor in the red zone”, Kubiak said after the loss Sunday. He’s a guy that approaches the game different than anybody I’ve been around. Obviously, this is one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time. I’ve said that over and over again.

Christina Rivers has covered the Pittsburgh Steelers and National Football League professionally as a journalist and photographer for over a decade.

“It all starts and stops with me”, said Osweiler following their 15-12 defeat, according to Yahoo Sports. “I’m looking forward to getting a lot better”. So with Raiders offense not being able to get anymore points it was up to Raiders defense to hold onto the 3 point lead… “So, I have nothing but love for Ben”. “And I thought we did that”.

After almost four weeks away from the practice field, Peyton Manning has returned. That matchup could help decide which of the two teams gets a first round bye in the playoffs and depending on how things go with Manning, it could feature two backup quarterbacks against each other. He is expected to clear the protocol and play against the Steelers.

Osweiler put up 308 passing yards against the Raiders on Sunday, but he did not throw a touchdown pass and his performance may have quieted some of the noise that the Broncos should keep Osweiler in once Manning is healthy.
