‘Star Wars’: The Force Of Nostalgia Is Strong With This One

They are our beacons of light and dark, the scavenger in search of objective and the tormented purveyor of the dark side.

“We’re going to see our favourite heroes back on the big screen, and to do it in this huge marathon is just epic”, superfan Matthew Crandall told CTV’s Canada AM on Thursday.

There will be moments that even the most hard-core of fans will consider a bit shonky, but the fact that the discussion will be about whether this is the finest Star Wars film since Return of the Jedi or Empire Strikes Back is the biggest praise I can offer.

Following Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm, the Expanded Universe continuity was established as non-canon and rebranded as “Star Wars Legends”, in favor of “The Force Awakens”, current novels like “Star Wars Aftermath” and future films.

And I did say that I wanted Han Solo to die in the original and that wasn’t because I thought I didn’t want to play the character, but I didn’t anticipate at that point that there would ever be another film.

Officials say they do not have any threats against theaters or movie-goers for this week’s premiere.

The Force Awakens, which opens in cinemas tomorrow, is already being hailed by critics as a strong addition to the franchise. Beyond Leia, female characters only speak for 63 seconds of the 386-minute running time of the original trilogy, which, let’s face it, is pretty poor.

Carrie Fisher has called for blockbusters like the new Star Wars movie to receive more recognition from the Oscars as she joined the film’s cast and creators at the European premiere in London. “But still, it’s going to be hard to rise above the noise of ‘Star Wars'”.

What J.J. Abrams has done with Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens is bring the series back to its roots. “We really want to take whatever we can find from the culture and use that as an opportunity to translate that over to what we think is timeless truth that the Bible has to talk about”. “I even have a Han Solo vehicle license plate”.

For my generation, childhood memories were formed because Star Wars created something. The Force Awakens, for all its charms and virtues, tries to re-create something.

One fan said that it was “Mind blowing”.

Here’s hoping that guy gets at least one “Force Awakens” gift this year. Amid all the grandeur – the crashed spaceships and looming Death Stars – Abrams lives for the intimate details that make this story feel so real and relatable.
