Seattle Seahawks re-sign Christine Michael to bolster thin running back group

The Seattle Seahawks’ search for a primary running back until Marshawn Lynch returns took an unexpected twist Wednesday.

It was an unexpected move but emphasized the situation the Seahawks find themselves in.

He got the call from the Seahawks through his agent later that day, the same day Seattle put Rawls, their rookie star with 830 yards, on injured reserve with a broken ankle and torn ligaments. “We have a philosophy and an approach that doesn’t need to be changed right now”, Seattle coach Pete Carroll said on Monday. “We liked the work that he did”.

Carroll and general manager John Schneider met with Michael before signing him Wednesday to get a sense of where his mind was, Michael said.

“He’s got an opportunity, a responsibility to himself and to all these guys out there to do it, and I certainly think he’s embracing it and showed that today, ” Cable said after practice.

Cable said ideally that the team will “lean on” two of the three against the Browns.

The Seahawks aren’t certain whether their secondary will be at anything close to full strength Sunday against Cleveland with Kam Chancellor, DeShawn Shead and Marcus Burley all nursing injuries.

Seattle offensive line coach and run game coordinator Tom Cable said early returns were encouraging.

Having a successful run game is crucial because the performance of Wilson has been based around the balance of what Rawls provided.

And just because Seattle lacks an established running option right now, don’t expect Wilson to carry it more often. It’s a big deal to fitting things together and causing the defense to have to deal with us in a certain manner. He’s a core special teamer for us, and he’s really primed and ready to go. Then the knee injury to Jimmy Graham that ended his first season with Seattle prematurely.

The Hawks previously placed him in the healthy inactive list two weeks ago, but after one game, he was waived, Seattle PI noted.

“This league is about opportunity”, Brown said Wednesday. He had just 51 yards on 15 carries in five games this season with Dallas before the team released him.

He was released by the Cowboys on November 17 and signed onto Washington’s practice squad two days later before being released again on Tuesday. On Tuesday, Seattle released DuJuan Harris, who finished with 18 carries on Sunday, but averaged just 2.3 yards per attempt.
