Defending champions Chelsea sack manager Jose Mourinho

Jose Mourinho’s sacking by Chelsea is likely to entrench his reputation as a manager who effectively guarantees short-term success, but for whom legacy-building represents an unsolvable puzzle.

His sack comes just seven months after leading the London team to a Barclays Premier League title last season.

With the champions sitting 15th in the table after nine defeats in their opening 16 games, Chelsea announced they would be parting company with Jose Mourinho for ‘the benefit of both parties’.

“His three league titles, FA Cup, Community Shield and three League Cup wins over two spells make him the most successful manager in our 110-year history”.

In contrast, Claudio Ranieri, Mourinho’s predecessor as Chelsea boss in his first spell, has declared his dynamic duo to be “priceless” ahead of the January transfer window.

“At the end of the day, because of the underachievement that’s happened at Chelsea, even a great man and a great manager like Jose has lost his job”.

They added the club’s focus is now on ensuring theirsquad reached its potential.

“Two, if the club want to sack me they have to sack me because I am not running away from my responsibilities or my team”.

Jose Mourinho has launched a fresh public attack on his Chelsea players, suggesting some are fighting harder than others to end their slump.

– Days later it is announced Mourinho will leave Real.

September 29: Chelsea lose 2-1 to Mourinho’s old club Porto in the Uefa Champions League.

The Italian led Juventus to the Serie A title and Champions League final in 2015 and could be an outside bet to replace Mourinho, but Chelsea have made bold choices in the past and it could happen again.

He is unlikely, however, to be short of offers, with his tactical acumen, attention to detail and ability to form water-tight bonds with players setting him apart as a manager of rare talent.

In October, Chelsea issued a statement of the club’s “full support” behind Mourinho, but accepted “results have not been good enough and the team’s performances must improve”.
