Tina Fey heads to Afghanistan in ‘Whiskey Tango Foxtrot’ trailer
In the film, Fey is Barker, agreeing to head overseas on assignment partly so she can change what she sees as a singularly unsatisfying life and career. Fey, in Liz Lemon mode here after playing against-type as a party girl in Sisters, enters an absurd world of debaucherous reporters, sexist locals, and increasingly detached news outlets, all of which she must navigate as she tries to find both a good story and her own lost sense of goal.

In the film, Fey plays a television journalist who gets sent to the Middle East because she is an “unmarried, childless personnel” at her cable news network.
Paramount Pictures has unveiled the first trailer and poster for Whiskey Tango Foxtrot (also known as WTFTheMovie) starring Tina Fey and based on the true story recounted by Kim Barker in the book The Taliban Shuffle: Strange Days In Afghanistan And Pakistan. The mismatch dynamic between Fey and Margot Robbie as another embedded reporter who befriends Barker could cover some interesting territory, but the film’s March 4 release raises a few suspicions. According to Fey, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, titled such because that’s the military code for “WTF“, focuses less on the actual fighting and more on war journalists’ experiences.
