Player of the moment Hernandez explains why he left Manchester United
Paul Merson admits that he can not understand why Juan Mata is not more of a regular fixture in Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United side this season.

Manchester United have been suffering from a number of injury problems and Van Gaal has been forced to field youngsters in the last few weeks to make up for the gaps in his squad.
While the likes of that quintet have grabbed headlines post-Old Trafford, there are other success stories too.
Marouane Fellaini insisted recently that the United squad had total trust in the manager, while Juan Mata has also urged the squad to stick together in a bid to improve their form. It’s a reasonable shout, even overlooking those who have seen better days.
Hernandez spent last season on loan at Real Madrid after Van Gaal told him to take the right offer if it came up, and the United boss left the striker in little doubt where he stood during the summer. And to be fair, the banner in the photo only says “Van Gaal”, nothing else.
The proposed ‘ Louis van Gaal out’ banner which was set to be flown over Old Trafford has been confirmed as a hoax.
Although new faces Memphis Depay and Anthony Martial are yet to meet lofty expectations placed on them, Overmars believes they are “two of the best young talents in the world” and will deliver.
In truth there are more than enough examples of Van Gaal cast offs excelling elsewhere not to include players who bring a sentimental tear to the eye but are no longer what they once were.
It’s not like United have been flying without Young either.
Hernandez had joined United in 2010 from Guadalajara.

Splashing a much publicised £250 million on the playing staff of course, some United fans by the bar are actually claiming the club are no closer to the Premier League title under the Dutchman than they were under the ill-fated reign of David Moyes!
