Muslim ban is about ‘security’ not religion
“You know people don’t know that about me”.

Kerry said Trump’s call “does endanger national security, because it exhibits an attitude by one American who is running for the highest office of our land about a willingness to discriminate against a religion”.
Trump said that “tremendous ‘hatred” and “a sickness” exists in the Muslim world, and that the Muslims themselves must “help us figure it out”.
Mr Ali’s statement was directed at “presidential candidates proposing to ban Muslim immigrants to the United States”.
“I have many friends that are Muslims, and I will tell you, they are so happy that I did this because they know they have a problem”, Trump said. Another voter named Tina explained, “You know what Trump does?”
Here are how some of Trump supporters and those considering backing the current Republican presidential reacted to his proposal this week in a series of interviews with The Associated Press.
“You can’t, in these risky times, take tools away from the government, and he’s made the country weaker”, Christie said of Cruz.
Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, Christie said, hurt the country by voting against extending the National Security Agency’s bulk collection program of phone records, which ended days before the shooting in California. Trump is, and he’s handily beating the other candidates at the moment.
“I didn’t do this for polls so I don’t even care what the polls say”, Trump said in an appearance yesterday on CNN’s “State of the Union With Jake Tapper”.
“Trump is an embarrassment to the American electoral process, the Republican Party, democratic principles and the country”.
“They have alienated many from learning about Islam”, he said.
“We also need to remember that his support is weaker than we think: only one-quarter to one-third of likely (not committed) Republican voters say they might (not will) vote for him”, said Dr McCarthy.
As the week progressed, Trump began to fill in additional details. It’s no wonder many Americans seem ready to hear someone sound decisive and action oriented.
“By the way, it’s not total and complete”.
Trump will appear onstage Tuesday night along side Cruz and other contenders at CNN’s Republican Debate in Las Vegas, the final Republican debate of the year. “You’re going to have people coming in and you are going to get people in”. Trump said he faced more controversy with earlier calls to stop illegal immigration.
While Trump has brushed back criticisms, including from some Republicans, that his idea smacks of bigotry, some of his backers take that charge personally.

“The worst outcome for the Republican party is if Trump loses the nomination and runs as a candidate of his own party”, said Prof Hill. “But there’s certainly a better way to say it”.
