Cong stalls Parliament over National Herald case

Responding to Sonia Gandhi’s comment that she is not scared of anyone as she is Indira Gandhi’s daughter-in-law, Prasad said: “Law is not concerned with who is whose daughter-in-law, or who is whose son-in-law”.

The Congress alleges that the court summons to Sonia Gandhi and Rahul is political vendetta. I have full faith in the judiciary. In order to sideline the government in Parliament, the Congress has reached out to other opposition parties for support.

Meanwhile, the Rajya Sabha yet again witnessed ruckus as Congress MPs staged noisy protest over alleged politics of vengeance by the BJP-led government over the National Herald case. Congress president Sonia Gandhi also broke her silence earlier today and stood her ground asserting that she was not afraid.

The Congress, however, accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of running a political vendetta against it, saying there was nothing illegal done by them and it will fight it out in the court of law. “If you feel there has been injustice then appeal in the High Court…, if not in High Court then Supreme Court”, he said, adding the Congress has stooped to the level that bills are being torn in the House.

However, on Tuesday, they were directed to appear in person on December 19 by a Delhi court which allowed their plea seeking exemption from personal appearance for the day in the National Herald case.

The Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day on Tuesday due to repeated protests by Congress members following the Delhi High Court summons to Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in a case of cheating involving the National Herald.

Refuting charges of “vendetta politics”, Parliamentary Affairs Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu on Wednesday said taking objection to a judicial verdict and stalling parliament was the biggest threat to democracy and the Congress should realise it. The Congress have called the case a “proxy litigation” and alleged “political vendetta” by the NDA government. “They are raising all these issues only to delay GST and other important bills”, Jaitley said.

Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Nirmala Sitharaman said the Congress should not be anxious if it had not done anything wrong in the case. “We all know who is threatening the judiciary”, he added. The court will hear the case on December 19.
