NFL Pro Bowl Voting Update; Brady, Newton Lead

The Lions had four players selected for the Pro Bowl past year: Johnson, receiver Golden Tate, safety Glover Quin and quarterback Matthew Stafford, who won MVP honors at the game after going as an alternate.

The Pro Bowl roster will be revealed December 22 and decided by a combination of one-third votes by fans, players and coaches.

Bowman is the only 49ers player listed in the top-10 in fan balloting.

The New York Jets didn’t fare particularly well in the fan voting for the Pro Bowl, the results of which were announced Thursday by the NFL. The former Auburn star finished with 701,086 votes – 468 fewer than Brady attracted.

On Jan. 27, two NFL.com fantasy-football champions, the top two offensive vote-getters, the top two defensive vote-getters and Pro Football Hall of Fame members Michael Irvin and Jerry Rice will hold a draft of the Pro Bowl selections to form the two teams for the all-star game. The game itself is January 31 in Honolulu.

At the center position, the guys ahead of Mangold were Carolina’s Ryan Kalil (230,833) and New England’s David Andrews (145,812). And just as the first week they were opened, Charles Woodson led all vote getters at the safety position.

Return specialist: Tyler Lockett, Seahawks; Danny Amendola, Patriots.

Chandler Jones, who got 258,486 votes and was second only at defensive end to J.J. Watt.

At the cornerback position, Revis finished well behind Carolina’s Josh Norman (320,597 votes).
