Browns coach says Russell Wilson is not ‘elite’

He’s had one of the greatest four game runs in the history of the quarterback position, throwing 16 TDs (plus a rushing TD) and 0 INTs. Seahawks fans are undoubtedly hoping that the Eagles or Redskins will win the NFC East, preventing Seattle from facing Eli Manning, Odell Beckham Jr., and the Giants (especially after seeing Manning and Beckham light the Dolphins on fire on Monday night).

“They’ve done a nice job up there kind of building the package around him”, Pettine said. “He’s ascended. He plays at a high level”.

Undoubtedly, all signs are pointing to the couple walking down the aisle soon, and according to an inside source they believe they’re each other’s ideal match.

“To me”, Pettine added, “it goes both ways”. They also need an elite receiver. Pettine said Wednesday. “The (Tom) Bradys, whether it’s Aaron Rodgers, (Drew) Brees, (Ben) Roethlisberger, the ones that you would consider the two, three, four elite guys? No. But he’s certainly played himself into that next tier”, Pettine told reporters during his weekly media availability, via Clevelandbrowns.com.

Wilson has the all the capability and the tools to lead the Seahawks.

PREDICTION: Seattle’s depleted backfield is a definite concern and Browns QB Johnny Manziel’s mobility could create big-play opportunities against a secondary that has been gashed many times this season. Wilson is getting close but he’s not in the Top 4 yet. Unfortunately, the Seahawks have an obstacle with Thomas Rawls breaking his ankle and being out for the season with Marshawn Lynch’s return still questionable.

“Every quarterback that’s ever played is tied for one”, the Browns’ coach said Thursday.

Whether any quarterback is elite is in the eye of the beholder. If he does that, he’ll be in that top tier anyway. It’s nearly entirely because of quarterback Russell Wilson.

Statistically, Wilson is having the best season of his career.

Pettine was talking about his statement that the Browns were going to go to Seattle on Sunday and “cut it loose”. Wilson is the hottest quarterback right now. “Ultimately, football players make football plays and that is kind of the mentality”. I always tell you guys, ignore the noise. “I think it comes down to winning games”. “God knows everything that’s to come in the future, and I think it’s best to let Him keep taking control of things”.
