Even Calgarians who couldn’t make it to the Star Wars Marathon were celebrating this morning.

“I can’t explain how excited I am”, said Adam Buchanon, who was dressed as a stormtrooper.

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is the eighth film in the series that has brought X-Wings, lightsabers and shrewd Jedi mind tricks to popular culture.

“I walked up from our motel room and just went, ‘Oh crap that’s a lot of media.’ I was expecting one to two cameras but all of you guys coming out here today it’s been great”, said Porter.

“When “Star Wars” came out, it blew my whole conception of what space could be – and what could be possible”, said Staff Sgt. Jason Tollinchi.

“It’s such a close-knit group of family and friends that there’s no one else you’d want to see the movie with”, Ritter told Entertainment Weekly. She plans on seeing the film with her 9-year-old granddaughter Friday at 7 p.m.at NCG Marietta. “All the kids in her class are talking about it. When I told her we were going to see it, she was very excited”.

Texas Tech student Holly Thomas was the first person to line up to get the best seat for the first showing of Star Wars tonight at Tinseltown.

Many theaters, including Godde’s, sold tickets in advance. It’s anticipated to be the highest grossing film ever. Rival studio executives predict a debut above $200 million, likely surpassing this summer’s record $208.8 million domestic debut of “Jurassic World”.

That simple sentence is enough to put a smile on the face of any Star Wars fan – and movie-goers are returning to that galaxy again for the first time in more than a decade.
